PROPORTIONS
Well proportioned stones reflect more light,
and therefore tend to appear whiter and
brighter than poorly proportioned stones.
Diamonds in perfect proportion may also
look better than diamonds of higher clarity
which are not as well cut.

|
Well Proportioned
When light enters a well cut diamond,
it is reflected from facet to facet and is
reflected back through the top in a blaze
of colour.
|
|
Too Deep
In a stone that is cut too deep, much of
the light is reflected to opposite facets
at the wrong angle to return through the
top and so escapes through the sides.
